First-years dance

Each year, around February, the social year for the first year ladies in Minerva is kicked off with the First Years Dance. This is where all the first years (and members of the HK) get dressed up in their prettiest cocktail dress to dance the night away. The ladies invite any date of their choice and the Eetsaal is transformed into a dance hall. There is food, a DJ and a professional photographer to snap all the fun memories!

Senior Dance

Senior Dance is the first dance of the year. Only senior members of Minerva attend this event. It is a semi-formal dance and the ladies invite their dates to dance the night away.

Huisfondsdans

Huisfondsdans is the most informal dance of the year, and probably the most fun. Each year the Huisfondsdans-committee choses a theme and the ladies, and their dates, must dress according to the theme. Themes have been “90’s Kids”; “Emoji”; “Minerva Movies.” This is really a fun dance and chance for the ladies to dress up and most importantly – raise funds for Huisdans at the end of the year.

Inblynaweek (IBN)

Inblynaweek is one weekend in the year when everyone stays in! As there are almost 300 ladies in Minerva, and we don't always have the opportunity to socialise. IBN is an opportunity for everyone to participate in some GIRLS-ONLY fun. The weekend consists of a combination of games-nights, critical discussions, inter-section challenges and partying. IBN is one of the most popular social highlights of the year.

Housewarming

Housewarming is the event when the house gathers for the first time after the 6-week December holidays. We sit outside on our voorgras enjoy to each others company, and meet the new ladies in Minerva. Each year housewarming has a different theme. Themes range from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” to “White and Pastel.” We also host tea- or wine tastings and have a photographer to take a photo of all the girls from the top floor of the house.

Huisdans

Huisdans is the dance nearer the end of the year, where the ladies and their dates dress up in formal attire. Huisdance is a dance similar to matric farewell. This is the last formal dance of the year and also the most anticipated one! The ladies always look stunning with their gowns

Hennedinee

Hennedinee is a very informal, dress-up (or themed) end-of-year function. This is where the house gets together one last time before November examinations. This is a Minerva event only, meaning that the ladies do not invite a date. We have the event in the residence- we dance, give out prizes and take many pictures! It is also where the ladies leaving Minerva get a chance to be recognized.

Damesdag

Damesdag is a day that you spend with any woman that has influenced your life. This can be a mother, grandmother, aunt or friend. The day celebrates everything about being a woman and is very special. There are lucky packets and prizes to be won on the day. An important element of the day is also that Minerva raises funds for a charity of our choice. The last couple of years we have worked together with The Sunflower Fund, but it also may vary from year to year. It is a lovely event where the ladies can dress up and embrace their womanhood!

Pa-en-Dogterdag

The bond between a dad and a daughter is a very special, unique and important one. Dad and daughter day is an annual event in Minerva, where we celebrate this father-daughter relationship.

This year's Dad and Daughter day was again a very special event and there were dads that came from all over the country to spend the day with us. There were all kinds of prizes to be won, a lucky draw, a Dad/Daughter quiz, a photo booth and a very popular air gun competition. Here the daughter that came first, won a stainless steel braai grid and bag for her dad and the dad that came first, won his daughter a big bouquet of red roses. We got to know each other better over delightful live music and enjoyed some snacks and drinks.

Skakels

There are many opportunities for the ladies to meet other people on campus in Minerva. One of the ways is at skakels and social events. A skakel is an event where two residences get together and mingle. This can range from skakels at men’s residences’ pubs, hikes or even High Tea’s with other ladies residences. A big attraction each year is the Maties Rugby. The whole campus goes and supports the Maties Rugby team. Other social gatherings are culture evenings, The Cheese and Wine Festival and many, many more…

KKNK-Toer

KKNK tour is a less ‘formal’ tour for the ladies in Minerva who would like to go to the annual KKNK with a men’s residence. It is a fun way of meeting new people, road tripping and camping on the sport’s field. It is usually not a very long tour, about two to three nights, and the tour members get KKNK personalised Minerva merchandise.

Jooltoer

(MAD2 tour)

“Jooltoer” as it is most commonly referred to, is a tour that Minerva and our MAD² partners go on during the December holidays. The tour’s main objective is to raise funds and awareness for Maties Community Service (MGD) whilst getting to know your MAD² partners in the process. Each year is different, meaning that the places the tour goes to may differ. Minerva often visits Hermanus and Mosselbay. Tour members stay in backpackers or we camp! It is loads of fun! There are also various of ways to raise funds: busking, “blikskud” or waitering in the towns you visit. During the day, the tour members work hard, but the night is there for enjoyment and getting to know each other.
